The Performance Engineer main job will be to watch the plants’ performance at a level greater than the plants do. That information will provide to the sites for action or reporting. The Performance Engineer can spend more time analyzing site data and mining that data for information then site staff can afford to do. The Performance Engineer can be called in to explore and support issues, and research and evaluate ideas or projects. Salary for this position is $120k - $145k based upon prior experience and relevant skills.
Job Responsibilities
- Setup a base of operations, CPP has offered the use of a office
- Introductory and coordination meetings will take place at each site to cover issues, reporting and the Performance Engineers’ role with them. We will explore the needs or ideas the plant staff has for performance and projects. Understating what each sits needs are in order to meet our combined goal of efficient operations and reporting.
- Work with OAU to establish data access via PI.
- Set up monitoring reports and screens. Daily the Performance Engineer will review current plant performance against historical averages and OEM specifications.
- Working with OAU we will resolve any data (PI) collation issues, assist the sites with PI system maintenance and backup. For example, CVFA PI system is not functional and will be one of the first issues to address.
- Continued daily monitoring of plant performance, including real time heat rates
- Meet with plant staff and visit each site at lease monthly
- Report on post outage efficiency gains through water washes, engine work , HRSG cleaning or other BOP enhancements
- Recommend when to schedule HRSGs cleanings, water washes or condenser cleaning
- Help find and resolve efficiency losses due equipment or operations, like the sub cooling of condensate
- Recommend and assist site staff with performance based projects
- Stay current with power plant engineering and performance with literature and media
- Regularly attend training and seminars to improve the Performance Engineers skill set and continued education
- Attend user group meetings to seek out ideas and innovations that can be appalled to the plants to improve efficiency and operations
- Audit the sources of key data points using Ethos QA program. This would support the integrity of the data.
- Assist with PI systems at each site
- Regularly and on demand reporting of performance, areas of concern and opportunity’s for improvement.
- Assist in standardizing the reported performance data from each site.
Required Skills / Knowledge
- Expert technical resource with extensive experience in power generation, thermal performance engineering, equipment specification, operations and maintenance.
- Expert technical resource with extensive experience in power generation engineering, process data system interpretation, analysis, monitoring and reporting.
- Proficient in the use of OSI PI software
- Computer literate and experience with Microsoft Office suite of software applications.
- Proven technical aptitude with a contractual external customer base.
- Ability to travel domestically as required on a limited basis.
Experience
- Minimum 6 years of experience working in the power generation industry.
Education Requirements
- Bachelors of Science degree (BS) in an engineering related subject and/or at least seven years of experience in gas turbine industry; preferably Power, Oil & Gas and/or industrial markets. Professional Engineering License preferred.

- Excellent vision necessary; corrected to be 20/20.
- Sitting for extended periods may be required.
- The employee may be required to work in a hot/cold or dusty environment at times.
- The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally transport up to 100 pounds.
