This Plant Control Engineer position will support the EthosEnergy Performance Center located in Houston, TX. This remote monitoring & diagnostics (RM&D) facility provides offsite monitoring and operational support to combined cycle and simple cycle gas turbine power plants, combustion dynamics monitoring, thermal performance, and operations/maintenance engineering disciplines. The role will lead daily operations to ensure the health, reliability & diagnostics of our client facilities by:

• Monitoring & diagnosing reliability & thermal performance issues
• Using Advanced Pattern Recognition (APR) & thermal modeling software
• Providing advanced condition monitoring & data analyses of critical systems
• Teaming with plant personnel & subject matter experts to diagnose plant equipment issues

Important: This position requires the candidate to live in the Houston, TX area. Hybrid/Remote work possible for the right candidate.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform technical engineering services that include PHD Monitoring, thermal performance audits and operational engineering analysis.
  • Work both independently and as part of a larger technical team on assigned projects in both on-site and back-office environments.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers to understand and resolve technical issues as it relates to process and equipment efficiency and reliability.
  • Development/improvement of PHD processes and standards that focus on efficiency and value.
  • Technical development of new products related to PHD and thermal performance support to drive growth and customer satisfaction.
  • Act as main point of contact for internal/external customers for operations/maintenance/thermal performance issues
  • Setting up new customers and configuring new technologies within the PHD application
  • Develop, maintain, and use advanced pattern recognition software models and plant operational data to detect changes in the operating behavior of plant equipment and systems.
  • Perform daily monitoring of site critical components that have installed models actively collecting data using advanced analytics software. Respond, evaluate, and prioritize alarms for potential equipment related issues and interact with station personnel and provide recommendations to optimize plant equipment and systems.
  • Support and interface with corporate component Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to assess equipment anomalies.
  • Communicate equipment anomalies to plant operations, engineering personnel and plant technical analysts, such as condition-based maintenance (CBM) analysts.
  • Identify and classify associated risks to the plant, provide recommendations to mitigate risks, and follow up to ensure resolutions are tracked through to completion.
  • Monitor equipment performance and predict component health, alerting corporate SMEs and station personnel of anomalies within those trends which could adversely affect the reliability, availability, maintain ability and performance of equipment.
  • Update, retrain, and evaluate the adequacy of existing APR and thermal performance software models.
  • Capture and quantify avoided costs to express the value of team activities.

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • A working understanding of thermal cycles (simple cycle, combined cycle & cogeneration) performance, optimization, operations, maintenance, or equivalent discipline(s)
  • Computer literate and experience with Microsoft Office suite of software applications
  • Proven technical aptitude with a contractual external customer base
  • Willingness to travel as required, up to twenty percent.
  • Highly motivated and innovative
  • Able to work effectively with minimal supervision

Experience

  • Eight (8) years’ experience as a Generation/Plant Engineer, Lead Operator, Maintenance Technician or CBM Specialist.
  • Experience and knowledge in all aspects of power plant systems and operations.

Education Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to do walking, reaching, climbing, and stooping and lifting (up to 50 pounds).
