The Gas Turbine Combustion Tuning engineer will be involved in the combustion tuning activities related to seasonal tuning, auto-tuner (ECOMAX) setup and support, combustion dynamics system installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. These activities take place at customer facilities in the US and internationally. This individual has responsibility for working directly with customers to perform field work activities with direction from an engineering lead.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform combustion dynamics tuning on heavy frame industrial gas turbines
- Work as part of a technical team to develop and implement ECOMAX improvements and modifications
- Perform combustion dynamics monitoring system installations at customer sites, including oversight of subcontractors for demolition, installation, and verification of new equipment
- Functionally test field instrumentation devices such as thermocouples, pressure transmitters, switches, passive and active speed probes, etc.
- Set up and verify system communication networks
- Participate in coordination meetings, design reviews, site engineering site audits, and customer acceptance tests
- Generate project documentation including site risk assessments, trip reports, as well as demolition / installation and commissioning plans
- Develop and provide site-specific customer training for newly installed equipment
- Provide remote technical assistance in support of tuning activities
Required Skills / Knowledge
- Associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or relevant experience in engineering, electronics, physics, etc.
- Familiarity with communications networks such as Modbus and TCP/IP
- Ability to read and follow electrical wiring prints and piping and instrumentation diagrams
- Ability to work remotely with minimal oversight
- Strong desire to work on projects as part of a team
- Communicates extremely well at all levels of the organization (both verbally and written)
- Valid US-driver’s license
- Domestic and international travel required (50% annually)
Experience
- 1-3 years’ experience in turbomachinery or equivalent industrial experience
- Familiarity with GE Mark V, Mark VI, and Mark VIe control systems
- Experience with Matlab, Simulink, LabVIEW, other modeling software
- Familiarity with dry low emission / dry low NOx combustion systems
- Experience with Rockwell Automation RSLogix programming for turbine controls applications
- Experience with HMI programming applications including Rockwell Automation Factory Talk View, Cimplicity
- Experience with industrial requirements and standards (NEC, ISO, UL, IEC, ATEX, CE, CSA, etc.)
- Solid control system knowledge and understanding of turbine theory
- Familiarity with power generation facilities, power markets, basic economics of power generation
Education Requirements
- Associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or relevant experience in engineering, electronics, physics, etc.
Physical Requirements
- General office related activities.
- Field work requiring moderate lifting, squatting, hand tool usage, & stairs in an industrial environment.
