We are recruiting an Operations Manager for Apex Generation Station located in Las Vegas Nevada. This position works under the direction of the Facility Manager, and has supervisory responsibilities including the management, corrective counseling, and time sheet approval of direct reports. This multifaceted role is responsible to uphold safety and environmental compliance, to coach train and measure important key performance indicators of union staff and to ensure excellent customer service to the Facility Owner and other key stakeholders. Other key responsibilities include creation of budgets, bid proposals and contract evaluation.
Successful candidates must have a minimum of (8) years relevant combined cycle power plant experience, with (4) years in a supervisory or management position. Technical knowledge of 7FA/D11 and/or other heavy frame combined cycle operational equipment required. An understanding of Zero Discharge and Reverse Osmosis water treatment system is strongly preferred.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead by example. Set high attainable standards for the operations department with continuous improvement of staff, optimal use of plant equipment. The Operations Manager is the agent of positive change in the operations organization. Ensure staff schedules and overtime align with Apex availability and need for staff to have a work life balance.
- Ensure a safe working environment for all personnel and contractors by enforcing Federal, State and Local along with Apex and Ethos procedures and policies. Meet power generation oversight organizations FERC, NERC reporting requirements through documentation, equipment testing, evaluations. Lead “root cause analysis’ “fish bone” studies to demonstrate cause and effect issue(s) understanding with corrective measures.
- Implement and support programs and directives of both Owner and Ethos Energy. Address equipment & staff issues and/or concerns in a timely manner. Develop optimization recommendations to the owner for improvement projects by “white papers”, scope proposal letters, requests for quotes, request for budgetary estimates and/or with cost justifications.
- Provide daily updates to Apex management of plant status, equipment conditions, staff shortages, deficiencies of either plant equipment or staff.
- Own the Apex lockout-tagout program, update, revise as required Apex P&IDs, Operations procedures, Night Orders, Schedules, Over Time list, Equipment Rounds Sheets.
- Develop and implement facility training programs for the operations personnel including cross training of facility staff to create a more flexible and productive plant environment, operations staff ensure job/task development and knowledge base are maintained at required levels. Sets high and challenging productivity and quality standards for self and work group.
- Provide development opportunities e.g. rotating assignments, for the operations team to ensure appropriate skill sets are maintained and personnel are qualified for the activities with which they are being asked to perform.
- Assign staff corrective and preventative maintenance work orders, special projects and tasks to maintain an acceptable backlog of Maximo operations work orders. Ensure work is properly distributed among shifts, and all personnel are being exposed to the various functions in the plant thus increasing the experience level of the staff.
- Support the Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to ensure the facility environmental compliance, including the preparation of quarterly and annual reports are accurate, complete, and submitted to the appropriate agency in a timely manner. Interface with consultants, as needed, in the completion of environmental projects.
- Support the Facility Manager in the completion of all facility reporting requirements
- Monitor and optimize plant and staff performance through periodic equipment testing and Apex operations staff evaluations that identifies knowledge gaps with appropriate coaching and/or training. Encourage the plant operations staff to continue to self-perform corrective and preventative maintenance to reduce outside contractor costs.
- Develop department training guidelines.
- Monitors inventory levels of chemicals and consumables related to operations to assure adequate supplies are available to maintain operations.
- Perform/assist in other duties as assigned by the Facility Manager.
Required Skills / Knowledge
- Technical knowledge of 7FA/D11 and/or other heavy frame combined cycle plant equipment
- Understanding of Zero Discharge and Reverse Osmosis water treatment systems
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and P&ID's
- Microsoft office, along with Maximo or other CMMS
- Basic accounting principles, plant economics and transmission system operations
Experience
- Minimum of eight year's relevant combined cycle experience, with four years in a supervisory or management position OR,
- Demonstrated experience through progressive positions in which there was oversight and delegation of tasks/projects in combination with education / experiences in combined cycle power plant
Education Requirements
- Associate degree or bachelor’s degree or higher is strongly preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at heights, walking, reaching, climbing, in weather extremes (wind, heat, rain) and stooping and lifting (up to 50 pounds).
