Responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the power facility while assigned to the Maintenance Department. Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs mechanical equipment, electrical equipment and instrumentation. This equipment includes, but is not limited to the gas turbine, steam turbine, generators, heat recovery steam generator, cooling towers, air compressors, water treatment equipment, demineralizers, motors, pumps, diesel generators, and other auxiliary equipment. Strictly adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees and public safety.
Job Responsibilities
- Complete all assigned work in a safe and timely manner ensuring that all safe work practices and procedures are adhered to at all times.
- Support both Maintenance and Operations as needed.
- Complete all required training on time.
- Adhere to all Ironwood Energy Control Program procedures and policies
- Work rotating shifts as necessary.
- Interacts with contract support to assist in facility maintenance.
- Must be capable of taking the lead on projects
- Demonstrates good listening skills and is receptive to constructive advice
- Promotes a safe, productive team environment
- Actively participates in finding, offering advice and solving problems
- Plans projects and work orders, including ordering materials.
- Assists the Planner and Maintenance Manager to develop work plans for upcoming projects.
- Completes work order activities as needed.
- Organizes contractors via the EthosEnergy Group WAS program to ensure that all permits are being completed properly.
- Oversees planning to provide information for scheduling projects and outages.
- Fully supports the use of a computerized maintenance management system by displaying a proficiency in using the system, entering data consistent with fellow employees and dedication to the facility maintenance philosophy. Thoroughly records equipment problems on MMS work requests and documents maintenance actions taken on work order forms. Handles corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance work orders in a timely and high- quality manner. Shows diligence in documenting spare parts usage and re-ordering.
- Sets up and operates various tools and instruments to repair parts and equipment. Operates welding and cutting equipment and completes metal fabrication projects.
- Reads, understands and complies with all regulatory procedures and facility safety programs. Follow all plant environmental permits.
- Maintains the cleanliness of all areas of the plant and maintenance shop area, or other duties as assigned.
Required Skills / Knowledge
- Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of gas turbine power plant maintenance.
- Proficient with removing and installation of power plant equipment such as pumps, motors, and other auxiliary equipment; including tasks such as rigging, hoisting, setting, connections and alignment.
- Proficient with performing preventative and corrective maintenance to include disassembly, repairs, and reassembly of mechanical components on pumps, engines, air compressors, and other mechanical systems.
- Proficient in troubleshooting rotating equipment issues along with strong knowledge of vibration analysis / data interpretation.
- Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
- Capable of writing procedures, work requests, purchase requisitions, and work plans.
- Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and P&ID's, write routine reports, solve practical problems.
- Must clearly communicate tasks and needs, and training of other personnel.
- Mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment knowledge is required.
- Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant operations.
- Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
- Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of electrical support systems for a combined cycle power plant.
- Knowledge of large frame, advanced technology turbine generators, GE 7HA.02 and GE D650 a plus.
- Advanced knowledge of MMS.
Experience
- Four to six years related experience and/or training; or a combination of experience and/or education preferred.
- Understanding of utility industry safe work practices and procedures
- Familiar with utility industry lock out / tag out procedures and methodologies
- Use of Computerized based management systems such as Maximo, etc.
- Familiar with the use of material safety data sheets (SDS)
- Familiar with NFPA 70E
- Able to demonstrate a strong understanding of fluid and thermal dynamics
- Able to demonstrate a strong aptitude in applied mechanics
- Able to utilize repair manuals, service bulletins, and OEM literature to troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment.
- Must be able to maintain maintenance records and support documentation for all maintenance performed.
Education Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred.
- Must successfully pass the IEEE MASS exam
Physical Requirements
- Able to work overtime as needed to support plant operations and maintenance
- Work a 12 hour rotating shift schedule including week-ends, holidays & call outs
- Ability to cross train in all areas of the plant and attend off site training as assigned by operations manager
- Able to complete all assigned work in a safe and efficient manner in all types of adverse weather conditions, including but not limited to, extreme heat
- Capable of performing moderate outdoor manual labor including but not limited to climbing stairs and lifting up to 70lbs.
- Able to climb ladders of various sizes and work at elevated heights
