We are currently recruiting an Instrument, Controls and Electrical Technician (IC&E) to be based with our O&M business in St. Gabriel, Louisiana at the Carville Energy Power Plant. This position will primarily be responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and repairing instrumentation, controls, computers, and electrical systems of the facility. This position will also support Mechanical Maintenance technicians when necessary. The equipment includes but is not limited to two GE 7FA Combustion Turbine Generators, two Alstom HRSG’s, one Alstom Steam Turbine Generator, Water Plant and associated auxiliary equipment. The major control systems are GE Mark VI and Emerson/Ovation DCS. Strictly adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees and public safety.
Job Responsibilities
- I&C, Electrical Skills Under the general direction and supervision of the Maintenance Manager or his designee, the IC&E Tech installs, repairs, calibrates and troubleshoots power plant instrumentation, electrical devices, and controls. Performs I&C and electrical work as required including, but not limited to, the following:
- Diagnoses and repairs the cause of instrument and control system malfunctions including transmitters, programmable logic controllers (PLC’s), plant or distributive control systems, instrument loops, flow meters, pressure probes, temperature probes, and level probes.
- Diagnoses and repairs the cause of electric and electric systems control malfunctions of equipment such as transformers, relays, switches, relays, switches, transmitters and control, generator monitoring and controls systems, medium and high voltage distribution systems and monitoring devices.
- Installs new electrical & control equipment as required.
- Properly uses electrical test equipment and other similar tools.
- Performs (with assistance as needed) the maintenance of equipment by cleaning, adjusting, tightening, performing preventative or corrective maintenance and identifying equipment in need of corrective maintenance.
- Ability to perform 480V and medium voltage switchgear basis electrical systems maintenance (consistent with WGPO electrical safety practices) and or supervise outside contractors in the performance of such work including the development of work scope and bid analysis.
- Coordinates purchasing with appropriate personnel and vendors in an effort to achieve timely repair of plant equipment
- Assist Maint. Techs. when required to perform their duties and possess the ability to perform maintenance tasks with training. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Includes, but not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned by Facility Management as needed:
- Competently maintains a combined cycle power generating facility equipment with minimal guidance or Internal Vacancy Rev 1 Issued May 2014assistance.
- Resolves the most complex technical issues, conferring with Manager occasionally; may serve as resource to others in resolution of complex issues. Independently prioritizes and executes responsibilities effectively and efficiently
- Duties and tasks reflect substantial variety and complexity
- Prioritizes own weekly schedule and may guide others in the completion of tasks within clearly defined schedules as set by management
- Utilize the plant computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for maintaining the maintenance history, generating work orders and managing spare parts.
- Assist in review of I&C spare parts inventory as required to cost effectively minimize equipment down time and assure high plant availability.
- Performs capital project and/or major program responsibilities as assigned.
- Repairs, replaces, dismantles and examines defective parts along with lubricating and cleaning parts.
- Diagnoses cause of instrument and electrical malfunction or failure of equipment.
- Reads, understands and complies with all regulatory and facility safety procedures.
- Coordinates with and directs outside contractors when required to ensure they adhere to the facilities policies and procedures and perform quality work.
- Maintains the cleanliness of all areas of the plant.
- Will be required to operate a fork lift and manlift.
- Cooperates and participates as a facility team member.

Experience
- Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant operations
- Capable of writing maintenance procedures, managing work requests, and purchase requisitions
- Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and P&ID's
- Proficient in basic computer skills and the use of the Microsoft Office Suite ( Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- This position requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience in power plants.
- Experience with Mark VI control system for the GE frame 7 FA turbine and the Emerson Ovation control system is preferred.
- Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with others and be self-directed
- Position requires extended working hours and the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by workload and plant conditions. “On call” status will periodically be required. Applicants must have the right to work in the United States in order to be considered for this position
Education Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program is highly desirable
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb stairs, use hands and fingers dexterously to operate tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and communicate orally.
- Vision abilities required.
- Sitting for extended periods may be required.
- The employee must be able to transport up to 50 pounds and occasionally transport up to 100 pounds.
- Dependable, reliable and predictable attendance is required
